Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q Who is eligible to apply?

An applicant must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents

  • Completed the 2023-2024 FAFSA

  • Underrepresented minorities

  • For high school seniors: proof of acceptance to an accredited 4-year college, university, or vocational-technical school must be provided OR

  • For undergraduate students: must have completed at least two consecutive semesters in the prior academic year of undergraduate course study at an accredited 4-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Proof of enrollment in a STEM or Arts program must be provided.

  • Must have 1 or more years of STEM or Arts study program remaining

 

Q When is the application deadline?

August 31st

 

Q What is the timeline?

Application opens: June 1st

Application deadline: August 31st 

Semi-finalists notified: by September 7th. Only semi-finalist and recipients will be notified. If an applicant is not notified by September 7th, the applicant was not selected this year and is welcome to apply again. 

Scholarship recipients notified: September 14th

Scholarship checks issued: September 30th

 

Q What are the selection criteria?

An independent selection committee will evaluate applications and select recipients based on the following:

  • High school/College GPA (minimum 3.00 GPA on 4.00 scale)

  • Academic record in the STEM+Arts fields

  • Volunteerism/Community service

  • 2 letters of recommendation (LOR)

    • 1 from a teacher/guidance counselor/coach, and

    • 1 from an extracurricular leader (pastor, worship leader, employer, volunteer leader, etc.). LORs are expected to be sent directly from the writer, on official letterhead via email to scholarshipfund@kamo.org.

  • Written personal statement outlining why you want/are pursuing a STEM or Arts career and how you desire to use it in the future (3000 characters maximum)

  • Video showing who you are and how you will use your STEM or Arts degree in this digital age (2 minute maximum)

 

*NOTE: all written personal statements will be read and evaluated by the selection committee. However, the video introductions of only semi-finalists will be evaluated. All decisions by the selection committee are final and not subject to appeal. No application feedback will be given.

Q Do I have to complete the FAFSA to apply? Yes, applicants must complete the FAFSA for the academic year and the FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) submission is required.

 

Q What are the details of the award?

At least (3) scholarships will be awarded this academic year; two $500 awards and one $1,000 award. Awardees submission videos will be published on the KAMO and Phyllis B. Price Memorial Scholarship websites.   

 

Scholarships will be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies, and course-required equipment. Institutions must be accredited, non-profit, 4-year colleges or universities or vocational school in the United States of America. Transfers from one institution to another with retention of the scholarship is allowed. Email us at scholarshipfund@kamo.org to notify your transfer.

Q Is this scholarship renewable?

Yes. Applicants may reapply annually so long as they continue to meet the eligibility requirements outlined above. Previous receipt of Scholarship does not guarantee future award. 

Q Which school should I list on the application if I have not yet made a final decision?

List your first choice in the application. You can update your final school choice at any time before the scholarships are awarded by emailing scholarshipfund@kamo.org. Should you be selected to receive an award, you will be responsible to make sure your college is updated at least 14 days before the check issue date stated above.

Q How do I know if my application is complete?

The applicant is responsible for submitting all requirements indicated on the scholarship application. 

 

Q What is the difference between official and unofficial transcript?

An unofficial transcript is a copy that has been viewed or handled by the student. The official transcript is on the institution's letterhead and is sealed in an envelope or electronically delivered directly. The unofficial transcript is acceptable unless requested otherwise. 

Q Where and when should I send my supporting documents?

Applicants are required to upload supporting document or working links directly in the scholarship application with the exception of the LORs as mentioned above.

 

Q How and when will I receive notification?

Recipients will be notified via the email listed on the scholarship application. You will be responsible to make sure your working email address is included in your scholarship application. 

 

Q What are my responsibilities if I am chosen as a recipient?

Chosen recipients' responsibilities include a photo opportunity and a written Thank You note via email at scholarshipfund@kamo.org within 7 days upon notification of selection. If Thank You is not by scheduled Check issue date, the award may be forfeited and awarded to a semi-finalist. 

Q How and when are checks issued?

Checks are issued directly to the qualified school of enrollment as verified on behalf of the recipient. Checks will be issued before September 30th.

Q Are scholarships taxed?

This scholarship is a tax-free scholarship. Please check with your tax preparer for further tax questions. 

 

Q Who administers this program?

Kingdom Authority Ministries Outreach (KAMO), Christian Charity, 501c3 nonprofit organization, is the sponsor and administrator of this Scholarship Fund.
